LIFE AT KENILWORTH
Life that opens up and out
Evolution of care
The heart of the village, Kenilworth House – a grand Federation-style bungalow built in 1917 – anchors village life with shared spaces for dining, reading, games and gatherings. With a billiards room, library, dining and lounge areas, cozy corners in front of a fireplace or looking out across the gardens, the house is yours to enjoy at leisure.
If you fancy a meal you don’t have to prepare, have family or friends visiting, or are simply in the mood for company, you can dine at the house in our light-filled dining room, with floor-to-ceiling doors, a fireplace for the cooler seasons, and a verandah when the weather invites an alfresco experience.
The house also includes an on-site hairdressing salon for convenience, and spaces to gather or find quiet depending on your mood. It’s a place that wears the charm of its era and welcomes warmly, somewhere you can be social or simply enjoy the ambience with a book by the fire.

Acres of sublime gardens
The gardens aren’t a backdrop here, they’re truly immersive and wrap around every aspect of life at Kenilworth. Wide paths, shaded pockets, and a stunning array of colours that shift with the Highlands seasons. Expansive enough for a long walk without leaving the grounds, with ample places to sit with company or simply get some fresh air enveloped in nature.
Crab apples and cedars, coral trees and roses, Japanese maples and rhododendrons. Flowing chestnuts, lavender patches, statement trees, and quiet corners beneath canopies. Rubberised walking trails that weave through it all, revealing something new each time you wander through.
These gardens are a universal favorite among residents – the feature that draws people in and keeps giving, season after season. A dedicated team of gardeners maintains these spectacular grounds year-round, so you can enjoy them without any upkeep, unless tending to your own courtyard garden brings you joy.
A rich social fabric – opt in when you choose
Community at Kenilworth Gardens is something you embrace when it feels right, not something imposed. There’s a rhythm to village life that includes regular social events, activities, and gatherings, but you’re never obligated to participate. You decide when you want connection and when you want solitude.
Social groups formed by residents, work with management to organise activities and events that reflect what people actually want to do. Some weeks that might mean Friday night drinks and pizza nights, art classes, or book clubs. Other times it’s the Wednesday afternoon knitting group, exercise classes, or seasonal celebrations like the annual Christmas fair.
You might join in regularly, drop in occasionally, or prefer to spend your time differently – in your own courtyard, walking the gardens, or out in Bowral township. There’s no pressure, no judgment. Just options when you want them.
The Village care team
Support at Kenilworth is there when you call on it, quiet when you don’t. Our village care coordinators, some have been registered nurses, are wonderful people who genuinely care about residents. They’ll help change a lightbulb, troubleshoot technology, share a cup of tea and conversation, or respond quickly in an emergency.
Available 24/7, they can be at your door within minutes if needed. Every villa, unit and serviced apartment has emergency call buttons in the main bedroom and bathroom. Vital-Call pendants can be carried throughout your home for added peace of mind.
This is non-intrusive support that respects your independence. The care team understands that residents are capable, engaged people who want the reassurance of knowing help is available, not constant attention. If your needs change over time, private nursing services can provide additional support for daily tasks, personal care, or appointments.
The team here see themselves as extended family – people whose focus is ensuring you can truly embrace the freedom of this season of life.
Maintenance and garden care
One of the great freedoms of life at Kenilworth is being released from the burden of property maintenance. Our dedicated maintenance team handles repairs, upkeep, and the day-to-day tasks that keep everything running smoothly.
Need something fixed? Call maintenance.
Want to travel without worry? Your home will be secure and well looked after.
The gardens are maintained by a professional team who tend to them year-round. You can enjoy the beauty without ever touching a rake or mower, unless you choose to tend to your own courtyard garden – something many residents love to do.

Pets welcome
We understand that pets are family. Dogs and cats are welcome at Kenilworth Gardens with prior approval, and most pets settle in beautifully as valued members of our community.
You’ll see residents walking their dogs through the gardens, and many find that their pets help them connect with neighbours and enjoy the outdoors even more.
Small caged birds and fish can be kept without requiring approval.
Very large or known dangerous breeds of any animals are not permitted, as we strive to balance individual preferences with the peace and comfort of the entire community.
Your days, your way
What makes life at Kenilworth Gardens distinctive is the freedom to shape your days however you choose. Some residents are deeply involved in village activities and social life. Others prefer a quieter rhythm – walking the gardens, working on creative projects, spending time with family and friends outside the village.
You might spend mornings walking the grounds, afternoons reading in the library or sitting in the sun, evenings dining with neighbours or retreating to your own space. You could be active in the local Bowral community – taking classes, joining clubs, volunteering – or you might prefer the slower pace of village life.
Keeping the generations together
Life at Kenilworth isn’t just about residents – it’s about families. Grandchildren play in the gardens, adult children visit for meals on the verandah, and families gather for celebrations in Kenilworth House.
This is a place where generations can stay connected and share experiences together.
For families, there’s also profound peace of mind knowing their loved ones are safe, supported, and living in a place that respects their independence while providing care when needed. With 24/7 access to our operations manager and care team, families know help is always available.
Experience it for yourself
